lyrics

THE PAINTER'S DILEMMA
I spend my days painting picture perfect.
I spend my nights watching masterpieces burn.
Sunrise to sunset, night fades to regret.
Cycles upon cycles, like the headlines of a gazette.
People long for good news but they take what they can get,
The readership of hopelessness is far greater than you might have guessed.
I'll bet you didn't know that when you're focused on the times,
The world is moving onward in a scheme of grand and planned design.
The artist of creation is alive and well, but hidden;
Beneath that old discarded book that might as well be forbidden.
To read, to learn, to believe, to yearn - with all your being!
But rather you burn the memories of lesson and reason,
While you thirst for tales of lust and treason!
And envy, and lies! You've become this disguise in which you used to hide.
But you've yet to discover that you've also covered your eyes!
I've seen your before, I've seen your now and I've seen your forever!
This pettiness isn't your purpose, not now, not ever!
I am the painter and you, are the vision.
But before the canvas can change, you've gotta make that decision.

SO SUBTLE
The pilot light of my life used to burn bright, but through current insight it appears to have gone out.
And no matter how close fire gets to this absence of flame, it stays the same with no fuel to sustain.
This house is so cold...
But i'm not scared, there's no threat of brain damage, with no gas in the air I'm fine; I'll manage.
But the thing is, I know something is missing. And the fact that I've noticed means there's no hope of dismissing
this human rights protest brought on by reminiscing of my past from this present reconnaissance mission.
My searching has never really yielded results, but maybe that's no one's but my own fault.
But it's like looking for motive in crimes I didn't commit, something I didn't just skip over, but altogether missed.
Something like sitting and waiting for a bus at a subway station...I'm just collecting dust.
Waiting...It's never enough. It's never enough.
Is anything ever enough?
If you know something I don't, then why not just say it?
Can't you see that I'm suffering while you pray it - isn't you that has to get uncomfortable too.
You think God will just send someone more qualified than you?
Don't let your selfishness cost our Father a soul!
The least of these are the seeds from which His kingdom grows!
Responsibility...it's something you either don't know, or actively fight, and believe me, it shows.
I'm sorry, and I'm not here to judge, but when I see a problem that's affecting so many innocent people I'm gonna try my best to fix it!
Maybe you just didn't notice that lack of subtle warmth comparable to what a pilot light might emit...
Oh man, it looks like this is a bigger problem than I thought.
The sort of problem that can leave a perfectly working machine flawed.
A problem so subtle we don't even notice until the product of the problem makes us uncomfortable.
A problem like the brokenness on these city streets that we walk every day while collecting receipts.
I swear I'm not claiming I'm one bit above you, I'm just trying to care, I'm just trying to love you.
And love is not a passive action! It's a call to arms heard only by a fraction of us.
It's so subtle. Like a pilot light coming back on.
So this house can be warm again.
