lyrics
Now I can see that complacency has taken me far past the point of apathy.
But I don't want to believe that this is also the point of no return.
And I've heard that there's truth in the word, that like the birds, my future is secure.
But sometimes, like the meaning of parables, my hope in the future is hopelessly blurred.
And I can smell a liar from a mile away, but sometimes I'm weak and more easily swayed.
It's all black and white and I mostly obey, but I'll make an exception for a certain shade of grey.
And I have felt a change within me, that's as real as the air that my lungs long to breathe.
But like air to my lungs, unless it's denied I often forget that it's something I need.
And I've tasted the fruit of our fallen dream; so sweet, but as wholesome as a stagnant stream.
Yet I drank it in excess to fill all my needs until sickness reminded me It was just a dream.
And I woke up thirsty...and hungry.
Every time I have this dream I wake up hungry.
Why do I long for that which makes me hungry?
Why do I consume that which kills me?
Because I'm a slave to my senses just like all the rest.
Empty vessels, way too easily impressed.
Way too readily filled to the brim with the lies of a snake, addicted to sin.
Addicted to the gentle feeling of that serpent's tongue; tickling our ears.
Our feelings betray...our feelings betray!
How can we follow our hearts if they're as black as night?
These polished obsidian orbs, though beautiful, are void of any kind of light.
Pushed so far from what is right...pushed so far from what is right!
It took all five senses and I'm barely noticing it.
God, have mercy on the ignorant.
Bless the senses of the defenseless.
Numb the pride of the arrogant.
God, have mercy on the ignorant.
God, have mercy on me.
